An Iran-backed militia umbrella calling itself the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has issued a statement announcing a purported $10 million reward for anyone who kills US President Donald Trump, describing the offer as retribution for the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Abu-Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi or Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
The statement, dated July 16, 2026, accuses Trump of bearing responsibility for the deaths of Soleimani and al-Muhandis and declares that the reward has been raised through donations from supporters. It also calls on individuals, groups and organisations to either carry out or facilitate the assassination.
Militia announces $10 million reward
The statement says the Islamic Resistance in Iraq is offering $10 million to “whoever kills the criminal Trump, or whoever eliminates him personally, directs others to do so, or facilitates it as an individual, group, organisation or institution.”
The group claims the money was collected from contributions made by its supporters.
Soleimani strike cited as justification
The statement portrays the killing of Soleimani and al-Muhandis as the motivation behind the threat, accusing the US President of “arrogance and aggression” in ordering the strike near Baghdad International Airport in January 2020.
It describes the two men as “martyred commanders” and says their deaths require qisas, or legal retribution, quoting Qur’an 2:179 at the beginning of the statement.
Threat extends beyond Trump
Beyond announcing the bounty, the statement says Trump “will never enjoy the taste of safety” and vows that those responsible for the deaths of Soleimani and al-Muhandis will continue to be pursued.
It also claims that “the blood of the martyrs will remain a curse” until what it calls aggressors are defeated.
