The United States military has released operational footage showing strikes on Iranian radar installations near the Strait of Hormuz, offering a rare visual account of a confrontation that has heightened tensions across the Gulf region.

The release comes as Washington and Tehran exchange accusations following a series of military actions around one of the world’s most critical shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz handles a significant share of global energy transit, making any escalation in the area a matter of international concern.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces targeted coastal surveillance radar facilities in Goruk and on Qeshm Island after responding to what it described as Iranian threats against maritime traffic and regional partners.

The newly released videos show the destruction of radar and tracking infrastructure that US officials said was being used to monitor and support hostile activity along key shipping lanes.

What CENTCOM said about the operation

In a statement issued late Friday, CENTCOM said the military action followed the interception of four Iranian one-way attack drones that were heading towards the strategic maritime corridor.

The command said the drones posed an “immediate threat” to commercial shipping operating in the area. After neutralising the unmanned aircraft, US forces carried out strikes on the radar sites to degrade Iran’s ability to track vessels moving through the waterway.

CENTCOM identified the targeted locations as Goruk and Qeshm Island, both positioned along routes that oversee traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Ballistic missile exchange raises regional alarm

The confrontation widened later when Iranian forces launched seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, according to CENTCOM.

The US command said six of the missiles were intercepted by American and allied air defence systems. The seventh missile failed during flight and did not reach its intended target.

CENTCOM also said no US personnel were injured and no American military installations suffered damage during the exchange.

The Pentagon rejected Iranian claims that missile attacks had successfully struck major US military facilities in the region.

Iran claims retaliation, Gulf states on alert

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the missile launches, saying the strikes targeted what it called “enemy bases in the region” in response to US actions against Iranian maritime assets.

The latest exchange prompted heightened security measures across the Gulf. Emergency sirens were activated in parts of Kuwait, while defence systems in Bahrain were placed on active alert as missiles approached regional airspace.

Even as backchannel talks continue, the escalating military exchanges have deepened fears that tensions between Washington and Tehran could spill into a broader regional confrontation.
