As European leaders gather in Kyiv to attend events commemorating the four years of the Russia-Ukraine war, Russia’s foreign intelligence service on Tuesday claimed that the United Kingdom (UK) and France are plotting to arm Ukraine with a nuclear bomb.
The Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation said that according to intelligence, the UK and France are aware that the situation developing in Ukraine leaves no chances for them to achieve the “ardently desired victory over Russia with the hands of the Ukrainian armed forces.”
“However, British and French elites are not ready to accept defeat. It is believed that Ukraine should be supplied with a “Wunderwaffe”. Kyiv would be able to aspire to more advantageous terms of ceasing the hostilities if it possesses a nuclear or at least a so-called “dirty” bomb. Berlin has prudently refused to take part in this dangerous venture,” the Russian foreign intelligence service claimed.
The agency further added that London and Paris are actively working to find the means of its delivery. “This involves a covert transfer of relevant European-made components, equipment, and technologies to Ukraine,” the agency stated.
Another option, it further added, under consideration is the French small-size TN-75 warhead from the M51.1 submarine-launched ballistic missile.
The Russian intelligence agency said that the British and French realize that their alleged designs imply a “gross violation” of international law and the treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and that is why they want it to look like it was developed by Ukrainians themselves.
Putin warns Ukraine against any attack on Russia using “nuclear element”
Referring to the foreign intelligence service report, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning to the UK and France, saying that European countries must know the consequences of a nuclear attack on Russia.
“[The UK and France] probably understand how any attack on Russia using a nuclear element could end,” Putin warned.
Speaking at a board meeting of the FSB – Russia’s security service – Putin warned that “sabotage attempts on pipelines in the Black Sea were forthcoming” and accused European nations of stalling the breakthrough during the peace talks.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and the war between the two countries has been going on since then.
