A technical glitch forced US President Donald Trump’s Air Force One to make an emergency landing at Joint Base Andrews near Washington on Tuesday night (local time).

White House Rapid Response Team said that the crew identified a minor electrical issue shortly after the take off.

Trump was enroute to Davos, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. However, he will continue the trip on a new aircraft.

“After takeoff, the AF1 crew identified a minor electrical issue. Out of an abundance of caution, AF1 is returning to Joint Base Andrews. The President and team will board a different aircraft and continue on to Switzerland,” the Official White House Rapid Response Team said on X.

The US President is scheduled to address the World Economic Forum on January 21. He is widely expected to speak on the issue of Greenland, which may have serious repercussions on the future of NATO.

Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on several European countries for opposing his bid to take over Denmark’s autonomous territory of Greenland.

Ahead of his departure for Davos, Trump even mocked European leaders, leaking their flattering private messages sent to him after he announced Greenland tariffs.

In one such messages, French President Emmanuel Macron told Trump that he doesn’t understand what the US president is doing on Greenland.

“We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” Macron said in the message.
He further urged the US president to “build great things”. Macron said that he can set up a G7 meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos.
