A seaman was killed and six other crew members, including two CISF personnel were injured when a patrolling boat of the Paradip Port Trust capzied in the Bay of Bengal today.
The dead has been identified as seaman Sanatan Gauda, 22.
According to port authorities, the  PPT patrolling boat Java, carrying seven crew members, was pressed into service in the break waters of port harbour. Since the sea was very rough today, the boat with its crew and CISF personnel was hit by a high tide and  sea water entered the boat causing the mishap. On being informed of the carsize, speed boats of the Port swung into action and rescued the injured crew and CISF personnel. The dead body of seaman  was fished out later by them .
The injured have been admitted to the Paradip port hospital for treatment.
PPT had engaged a contract agency named  ‘Sadhav Shipping Ltd’ for patrolling. Except the two CISF jawans, the rest were employees of the contract agency. Deputy Conservator of, PPT, Mr Gauri Prasad Biswal said,” Five of the  six crew members have been discharged from hospital while one of the CISF jawan has been shifted to SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.”
