Statesman News Service |

Tension gripped the district headquarters hospital campus when the members of Congress, BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Adivasi Yuba Samaj gheraoed the chief district medical officer, Dr Anand Padhi, on Sunday demanding answers to why a newly built 300 bed hospital was lying unused.

The hospital was constructed at a cost of Rs 21 crore but it is not being used on some filmsy plea or the other, charged the political activists.

Presently about 400 to 500 patients depend on the 99 beds at the DHH. The floors of the DHH always accommodates patients who find themselves in the most unhygienic condition. At present only 21 doctors are there out of 36 sanctioned posts.

Posts like those of Medicine specialist, Gynecologists, Surgery Specialist, Orthopedics, Anesthesia and radiologist are lying vacant since long. Most of the specialists are managing on deputation routine work and it is marked that some of the doctors are working with extra workloads under pressure.

Collector Guha Punam Tapas Kumar intervened to assure the agitating leaders of the different parties that the first floor of the five storied new building will be used for patients soon.
