Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and vice president of PML-N was arrested on Thursday for skipping appearance in Chaudhry Sugar Mills and money laundering cases.

“NAB arrested her from Lahore and we haven’t been given any reason or grounds for her arrest”, a spokeswoman for her party said.

Earlier this month, according to a source, the NAB team asked her about remittances in her account being a major shareholder of the CSM and other details of the transactions. “She said all details in this regards are available with the report of the Joint Investigation Team formed to probe the Panama Papers case’s report”.

Last month, Pakistan’s anti-corruption watchdog initiated a probe against PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz after the Islamabad accountability court rejected its application seeking legal proceedings against her for using a bogus trust deed in the Avenfield graft case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launched the investigation against Maryam Nawaz, her father, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) President Shehbaz Sharif, her cousins Hamza Shahbaz and Yousuf Abbas, and others for owning the M/s Chaudhry Sugar Mills Ltd.

The NAB reportedly traced numerous telegraphic transfers worth millions of rupees by the Sharif family and the end beneficiaries included Maryam Nawaz and other owners of the Chaudhry Sugar Mills.

Earlier in July, PML-N leader demanded the resignation of country’s incumbent leader Imran Khan.

She said, “Give your resignation! Go home!” and urged the crowds to chant along with her”, while addressing Imran Khan in her speech, Dawn news reported.

She also said that keeping her father Sharif in jail will be a crime now.

The NAB had also summoned her ‘absconding’ brothers, Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.

The PML-N leader will be produced before the accountability court on August 9 for remand.
