Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, shook hands and exchanged greetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the gala dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo for the G-20 summit leaders in Bali.

Dressed in traditional Indonesian shirts, the two leaders shook hands with smiles on their faces. Modi also greeted Xi’s wife who is accompanying her husband to Indonesia.

This was the first time that the two leaders exchanged greetings since the clash between their armies at eastern Ladakh in June 2020. Twenty Indian soldiers were killed in the clash while China suffered an unspecified number of casualties.

The two leaders had held two informal summits at Wuhan in China in 2018 and Mamallapuram in India in 2019 before the face-off between the two armies began in April-May 2020 amid the Covid pandemic.

India has already made it clear that relations between the two countries can’t become normal until the Ladakh stand-off is fully resolved.
