Iran on Saturday rejected US President Donald Trump’s allegation that Tehran was behind attacks involving an Indian vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, calling the charge unfounded and politically motivated.
In a statement posted on social media, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India said the accusation was an attempt to shift attention away from attacks that it claimed were carried out by the United States against Indian commercial vessels.
“The U.S. president’s accusation against Iran regarding an Indian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz is simply baseless,” the embassy said in a post on X.
According to the embassy, three Indian vessels were attacked within a span of less than a week, resulting in the deaths of three Indian sailors.
“It is an attempt to divert public attention from the brutal fact that the U.S. has attacked 3 Indian vessels in less than a week and killed 3 innocent Indian sailors. That’s pathetic!” the post added.

Iran reiterates criticism of US actions
The embassy’s remarks came after Trump alleged that Iran was responsible for attacks on three vessels carrying Indian seafarers near the Strait of Hormuz. The incidents reportedly led to three fatalities.
Iran has repeatedly condemned the attacks and described them as a threat to maritime security and international stability.
Earlier, Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed condolences over the deaths of Indian nationals and criticised the United States over the incidents.
“The brutal U.S. attacks on Indian commercial vessels, which have killed at least three Indian nationals, stand as clear evidence of America’s ongoing policy of armed robbery and State piracy,” Baqaei said in a statement posted on X.
“We extend our sympathies to the families and friends of the slain Indian sailors and offer our sincere condolences to the Indian people and government,” he added.

Call for international accountability
Iran also urged the international community to respond to what it described as repeated violations of international norms.
“The international community must hold the United States accountable for its lawless conduct, which continues to threaten global peace and security while endangering the freedom of navigation,” Baqaei said.
The latest exchange adds to growing tensions over maritime security in the region, with Tehran and Washington trading accusations over attacks involving vessels operating near key shipping routes.
