Canine terror: A rogue dog has gone on a biting spree in a far-flung village close to Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary injuring nearly 30 local residents, including school children. The dog has virtually unleashed terror in Ghadiamala, Daruora, Balarampur and Khamarsahi villages. Daily attendance in Ghadiamala Upper Primary school has dropped down as parents scared of nuisance by the dog have stopped sending wards to school. Adequate stock of anti-rabies vaccine has been dispatched to the village dispensary. Forest personnel have been requested to drive away the animal, said Kendrapara sub Collector, Pratap Chandra Mishra.
Wall collapse death: A child was killed and two others injured at Beheda village under Kujang police limit in Jagatsinghpur after a wall collapse yesterday. Heavy rains led to the collapse of the mud wall of the thatched house of Rabi Das yesterday morning. Das&’s daughter Sonali 14, Rupali, 9 and son Somu, 11 were sitting on the verandah when the mishap took place. Rupali died on the spot while Sonali and Somu were injured.
SPO suicide: Police have started an investigation after a special police officer working in Gajapati ~ Rajat Kumar Raita ~ committed suicide by hanging himself near BN Palace of Paralakhemundi. Sources said the unmarried youth had recently been promoted as Odisha Ancillary Constable, and was undergoing training. Police seized the body and sent it to post mortem. Raita was a native of Betrasingh village of Rayagada block, and it is suspected that he took the extreme step over a failed love affair.
Bike theft racket: Police have busted a motorcycle theft racket and arrested seven persons and recovered 13 stolen bikes in Jagatsinghpur.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sheik Waqil, Sangram Swain, Sheik Jamir, Jeevan Swain, Kalia Samal, Bapi Rout and Tulu Jena. The gang was operating in Jagatsinghpur, Tirtol and Chauliaganj area of Cuttack city.
