Bhubaneswar, 24 October
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested the centre for enhanced sanctions and early release of installments under various schemes of the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development ministry.
In separate letters to Union Ministers Jairam Ramesh and V Kishore Chandra Deo, the CM said the cyclonic storm of 12 October and the floods has destroyed power and communication infrastructure in several parts of the state.
Though the state government has already submitted the action plan for Ganjam and Mayurbhanj district for the current financial years, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has not yet released even the first installment of BRGF for these districts, said Patnaik in his letter to Mr Deo.
He urged upon him to intervene and ensure early release of the full entitlement of BRGF for financial year 2013-14.
The CM conceded that the state needs to increase its project execution capacity and accepted Jairam Ramesh&’s suggestion to involve central public sector undertakings like the CPWD to implement PMGSY road projects.
He thanked Mr Ramesh for approval of 881 road projects covering 2982 Km at a cost of Rs 1493 crore and the approval of 1184 Km costing Rs 1067 crore under PMGSY for the year 2013-14.
Mr Patnaik  also requested Jairam Ramesh to take steps to firm up arrangements with central PSU&’s for the road project works. He also requested Mr Ramesh to sanction more proposals under PMGSY during the year.
