A new surface-to-air missile jointly developed by India and Israel was testfired from ITR at Chandipur twice on Tuesday. The first test was carried out at around 10.14 am and the second at around 2.25 pm from a mobile launcher in LC –III of ITR. It was the maiden trial of the newly developed joint venture missile. Both the trials were successful and there could be more tests, in future, said informed sources here.
The system missile system includes a Multi Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (MF STAR) Earlier this year,between 30 June and 1 July,three tests g of the medium range surface to air missile, were conducted from this base at Chandipur. It may be noted 3,652 persons residing within 2.5 km radius of the launch pad No.3 of the ITR at Chandipur were shifted to temporary shelters along with their livestock today in the morning by district administration to felicitate the trails. Fishermen were also alerted not to venture into the sea during test.
