US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that Israeli strikes on Beirut “should not have happened” after Iran threatened the actions could derail the peace deal.

In a social media post on Truth Social, Trump said, “This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran.”

He further stated that while Israel has the right to defend itself, the alleged Hezbollah attack it was responding to was “very small and meaningless.”

Trump further added that the US and Iran are “very close” to a deal that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all sides should stand down.

“There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel,” the US President said.

He said the deal between the US and Iran could be the “beginning of a long and beautiful peace – Let’s not blow it!”

Trump’s remarks came shortly after Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security warned the enemies against any “miscalculations” after the airstrike on Beirut.

Rezaei reiterated that the path to any memorandum of understanding “runs through disciplining the Israeli regime.”

“If this rabid dog is not restrained, it will bite us while the ink on any agreement is still drying,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump had said that the 14-point MoU between the US and Iran will be signed on Sunday.

However, Iran never committed to the Sunday signing date and now the Israeli strikes on Beirut appear to have added to the uncertainty.
