Hundreds of flights cancelled worldwide as the US-Israel and Iran war rages
The US-Israel attack on Iran has thrown the global aviation industry under the bus with hundreds of flights being cancelled worldwide after several countries closed their respective airspaces.
As of Sunday, airlines across regions have been forced to cancel or reroute flights after emergency safety restrictions were imposed on key air corridors. Aviation industry estimates suggest that more than 700 flights have already been cancelled globally, while hundreds of others have been diverted to longer routes to avoid conflict zones.
Large parts of West Asia, one of the most important transit regions for international aviation, are either fully closed to civilian aircraft or operating under tight navigation controls. Airspace over several countries, including Iran and Israel, has been affected, severely limiting normal flight movement.
Major aviation hubs in the Gulf region, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha, have also restricted traffic, leading to delays that are spreading across airline networks worldwide. Flights connecting Asia, Europe, and North America have been particularly impacted, as many of these routes depend on smooth passage through the Middle East.ter strategic air corridors close

India concerned over retaliation, diaspora safety and Hormuz energy route: Expert
Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdev said that the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the US and Israel would shock the Iranian public, noting that the stated aim of the strike was to “decapitate” Iran’s leadership and that the attack appears to have achieved that goal; however, he added that while Iran is technologically weaker than the US and Israel, it is still likely to retaliate and its response could shape the situation ahead. He also stressed that India is deeply concerned about the escalation, as it does not want violence anywhere in the world, especially given that more than 10 million Indians work in the region and their safety is at risk, and because a large share of India’s crude oil and gas supplies pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran appoints Ahmad Vahidi as new IRGC chief amid rising regional tensions: Who is he?
Iran has reportedly named Ahmad Vahidi as the new chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to Iranian media. The move comes as tensions rise after recent US and Israeli strikes and the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which has shaken Iran’s political and military leadership.

Officials in Tehran are warning of strong retaliation, and state media says the conflict could expand to include Israel and US military forces in the region.
Vahidi is a senior Iranian military officer. In December 2025, he became deputy commander-in-chief of the IRGC. He earlier served as Iran’s interior minister from 2021 to 2024 and is now a member of the Expediency Discernment Council. Interpol has issued a red notice for his arrest over the 1994 AMIA bombing case.
IDF says over 30 targets hit, strikes ongoing
The Israel Defense Forces said strikes are continuing across Iran. In a statement, it said “30 plus targets so far” have been hit in western and central Iran.
The targets include aerial defence systems, missile launchers, regime targets, and military command centres. The IDF indicated that operations remain active.
Protest in Srinagar over Khamenei’s killing
In Srinagar, Shia Muslims staged a demonstration against the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The protest took place in the city centre and was described as peaceful.
A protestor said, “Today, our beloved leader, Ali Khamenei, was brutally martyred.... Yes, this mourning procession is going on peacefully in the city centre.”
The demonstration reflects the wider emotional and political reactions unfolding beyond West Asia.
Iran confirms Khamenei’s death
Iranian state media confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes. The confirmation followed hours of speculation and earlier Israeli remarks.
Iran’s Fars News Agency, citing sources, reported that four of Khamenei’s relatives were also killed. They include his daughter, grandchild and son-in-law. The strikes appear to have directly targeted his compound.
Celebrations and protests outside White House
In Washington, a group of Iranian Americans gathered outside the White House waving lion-and-sun flags and holding a banner reading “Thank You.” Some expressed gratitude to President Trump and Israel for the strikes.
One woman said, “We wanted to run free again.” Another declared, “We Iranian people wanted this war. We wanted the regime gone.”
Across the avenue, critics condemned the action. One protester warned, “We don't need another war. It's gonna spin outta control.”
‘Erased from the pages of history’: Reza Pahlavi
Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last Shah, said Khamenei “has been erased from the pages of history.” He argued that the Islamic Republic had effectively reached its end.
Calling Khamenei “the bloodthirsty despot of our time,” Pahlavi said any attempt to appoint a successor would be “doomed to fail.” He urged security forces to join what he described as a national transition and told Iranians to stay vigilant.
Netanyahu hints at outcome before confirmation
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said there were “many signs indicating Khamenei is no longer.” He did not directly confirm the death at that stage.
Netanyahu stated that “Khamenei’s compound was destroyed.” His remarks preceded Tehran’s official confirmation.
‘Khamenei… is dead’: Trump
US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Khamenei had been killed in joint US-Israeli strikes. He described it as the “single greatest chance” for Iranians to reclaim control of their country.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead,” Trump said. He called it “Justice for the people of Iran” and warned that Iranian forces seeking “Immunity” must act now, adding: “Later they only get Death!”
Trump claimed the country had been “very much destroyed” in a single day.
Experts warn of wider regional war
In Delhi, foreign affairs expert Waiel Awwad said the conflict began with Israeli strikes on Iranian leadership and military installations. He described the situation as “a more escalated war” and said it was turning into “more of a regional war.”
From Washington, Middle Eastern scholar Adrian Calamel assessed the crisis as “more US-driven than it is Israel-driven.” He linked it to long-standing concerns over enrichment and reprocessing capabilities, saying no country with those capabilities could be allowed to produce a nuclear weapon. Both analyses point to the possibility of prolonged instability.
Diplomatic outreach amid escalation
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a phone call from India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. No details of the conversation were shared publicly.
The outreach comes as military developments continue across the region. Diplomatic engagement appears active even as tensions rise.
Israeli Air Force claims elimination of senior officials
The Israeli Air Force said it struck military targets across Iran and eliminated seven senior officials of the Iranian Defence Leadership. The names listed included Ali Shamkhani, Mohammad Pakpour and others.
In another statement, the IAF said it completed an additional wave of strikes targeting the ballistic missile array and air defence systems in central Iran. The operations were described as precise and ongoing.

CENTCOM says no US casualties
CENTCOM said it successfully defended against “hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks.” It reported no US casualties or combat-related injuries so far.
The command described Operation Epic Fury as “the largest regional concentration of American military firepower in a generation.” It also confirmed that low-cost one-way attack drones were used in combat for the first time.
US launches ‘Operation Epic Fury’
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that the United States had commenced “OPERATION EPIC FURY.” He described it as “the most lethal, most complex, and most-precision aerial operation in history.”
“The United States did not start this conflict, but we will finish it,” Hegseth said. He warned that Iranian missiles and missile production would be destroyed and reiterated that Iran “will never have a nuclear weapon.”
CENTCOM said strikes began at 1:15 am Eastern Time, targeting IRGC command facilities, air defence systems, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields.
