Jailed Pak ex-PM Imran Khan has lost 85% vision in right eye, SC informed

Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan

Former Pakistan prime minister and star cricketer Imran Khan is reported to have lost 85 per cent of the vision in his right eye. The Pakistan Supreme Court was informed about it by Khan’s lawyer.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) leader has been behind bars since August 2023, when he was convicted of corruption charges and awarded a 14-year jail sentence.

The 73-year-old leader has claimed that the cases against him running into dozens are motivated and aimed at ending his political career. The Pakistan Army denies these charges.

“He has been left with only 15 per cent vision in his right eye,” news agency Reuters reported Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, as saying in a report submitted in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Khan is stated as saying in the fact-finding report that he had complained on several occasions about “experiencing persistent blurred and hazy vision” since October 2025, but received no medical intervention from the jail authorities.

Safdar had met Khan on the instructions of the Supreme Court and submitted his report on the basis of his two-hour-long conversation.

It may be noted that the Pakistan Supreme Court had given a February 16 deadline to jail authorities to let Khan’s personal physician meet him.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had earlier stated that the former cricketer was taken to the hospital this month for a 20-minute eye procedure.

Following the revelation, Khan’s PTI party released a statement and demanded unrestricted access for Khan to qualified specialists for treatment.

“We demand immediate and transparent implementation of the court’s order, unrestricted access to qualified specialists of his choice, and an end to tactics that risk his life under custody,” the PTI stated.
