Iran raises red flag of revenge above Jamkaran Mosque in Qom after Khamenei’s death in US-Israeli strikes

Following the death of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran has raised the red flag of revenge above the Jamkaran Mosque in the city of Qom.

According to several media reports, a red banner, which symbolises justice and revenge in Shiite tradition, was seen atop the Jamkaran Mosque.

Khamenei, the leader of Islamic Revolution in Iran, was killed in the US-Israeli strikes on Saturday. The Iranian state media confirmed the development after Trump announced it on social media.

The Iranian Supreme Leader’s daughter, son-in-law, grandchild, and a daughter-in-law were among the high-ranking Iranian officials killed in the attack.

The Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), General Mohammad Pakpour, and Secretary of Iran’s Defence Council, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani were also killed.

Mohammad Mokhber, Ayatollah Khamenei’s lead aide, said that a team led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, and consisting Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje’i will lead the country until the new leader is chosen by the Assembly of Experts.

Following Khamenei’s killing, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Larijani vowed to hit back hard at the US and Israel.

He said that the US and Israel have “broken the heart of Iranians” and that Tehran will now “burn their hearts”.

“This incident is a very bitter incident for all the Iranian nation. It means that that the U.S. and Zionists, through their actions, have actually created a situation for Iran and the Iranian nation that must be said they have broken the heart of the Iranian people; we also will burn their heart,” Larijani said.
