Iran has once again closed the Strait of Hormuz for all maritime traffic over Israeli violations of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Washington and Tehran earlier this week, reported state media on Saturday.
Iran’s central military command the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the closure comes in response to “the explicit breach of the first clause of the post-war memorandum of understanding by the United States” and “the Zionist regime’s continuous and ongoing violations of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon,” according to Press TV.
The development comes after Israeli strikes in Lebanon killed 16 people. The exchange of attacks between Israel and Hezbollah came a day after the two sides agreed to a ceasefire.
According to the Israeli military, its strikes came after Hezbollah fired more than 50 projectiles at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon overnight.
The Israeli strikes in Lebanon has become a major obstacle to ending the West Asia conflict.
The MoU signed between the US and Iran on seeking a permanent end to the war stipulated end of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, for a 60-day period to reach the final agreement.
Israel had not supported the peace deal when it was announced, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu under pressure to continue military operations in Lebanon.
Iran has also blamed Israeli for not allowing the war to end by its continued agression in Lebanon.
US President Donald Trump has also warned Netanyahu against Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Trump has also warned Netanyahu that “Without the United States, there would be no Israel”.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the disproportionate military response of Israel to Hezbollah attacks, Trump said that the Israeli leader “has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon”.
