An Indian national has died after a strike carried out by Iran hit a power and water desalination facility in Kuwait early Monday, authorities confirmed, taking the total number of Indian deaths in the ongoing West Asia conflict to at least eight.

The incident underscores how the conflict, now in its fifth week, is spilling beyond immediate battle zones, affecting Gulf countries and foreign workers stationed at key infrastructure sites.

In a statement posted on X, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water said the attack caused extensive damage to a service building and described it as a “sinful Iranian aggression” targeting the Gulf nation.

“This attack resulted in the death of an employee (of Indian nationality) and caused severe material damage to the building,” the Ministry said in Arabic, as translated into English.

Officials said emergency and technical teams were rushed to the site soon after the strike to assess the damage, stabilise the situation, and ensure that the facility continued functioning without major disruption.

The Ministry stressed that maintaining the security of electricity and water infrastructure remains a top priority. Teams are currently working to prevent further risks and keep essential services running smoothly.

Indian casualties rise amid expanding conflict

The latest death comes just days after another Indian national was killed in the United Arab Emirates. The victim died last Thursday after being hit by falling debris when a ballistic missile was intercepted over Abu Dhabi.

At the time, the Indian Embassy said it was “closely working with the UAE authorities to provide all possible support and assistance” to those affected.

Following a government review meeting on Friday, officials had confirmed seven Indian deaths in the conflict, along with one person reported missing. Monday’s incident has now pushed the toll higher.

Conflict enters fifth week with wider regional impact

The ongoing crisis began after coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which triggered a sharp escalation across the region.

Since then, Iran has launched retaliatory drone and missile attacks not only on Israel but also on Gulf nations that host American military bases. The attacks have resulted in both injuries and destruction of essential infrastructure across several areas.
