Indian bowlers bounced back in the last session of the first day in the opening Test match to restrict England to 285 for 9 at stumps. The five-match Test series between India and England kick-started on Wednesday (1st August) at the Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Batting first, England’s batters gave hosts a decent start as they scored 163 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of the second session. However, in the third session, England’s batting collapsed after English skipper Joe Root was sent back at the score of 80 in the 63rd over of the first innings. When Joe Root was removed, the hosts were 216 for four and soon they were reduced to 285 for nine at stumps.

On the second day, English pacer James Anderson and all-rounder Sam Curran will resume hosts innings. James Anderson is not a specialist batsman, so it is highly unlikely that he will be magical with his bat, however, Sam Curran is a different story. On Thursday, Indian side will need take a wicket early.

After bowling out the hosts, visitors will need to take advantage of the situation and score 450 to 500 runs to put pressure on England.

If India can restrict England to 320 and score 450 or more runs till the stumps at the third day, the hosts will be under pressure when they come to bat in the second innings. In all probability the English side will try to draw the game and India will try to no let that happen.
