India-UK trade pact to act as force multiplier for global economy: Piyush Goyal

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement is all set to act as a force multiplier for the world economy by strengthening cooperation between the two nations across multiple sectors like trade, investment and technology, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday.

Addressing the India Global Forum’s UK-India Week 2026 in London, Goyal highlighted that the partnership between the two nations has significantly expanded over the years, evolving into a highly strategic relationship encompassing multiple sectors, IANS reported.

“The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will act as a force multiplier to support the global economy,” the Union Minister said.

He stated that the relationship now extend beyond traditional trade ties including cooperation in technology, investments, defence and critical minerals.

The growing India and the UK engagement reflects increasing depth and breadth of the partnership, he added.

The Union Minister stated that the two nation share common objectives in combating terrorism and promoting global peace and stability, besides working together across several multilateral forums to encourage fair and equitable business practices.

Also, he noted that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will help Indian industries evolve and enhance their global competitiveness.

Moreover, he emphasised that the trade agreement between India and the UK would encourage both sides to become integral parts of global value chains, allowing businesses in the two countries to support each other’s economies and generate mutual growth.

He highlighted that the partnership holds the potential to become a force multiplier for the global economy by combining their respective strengths in innovation, manufacturing, services and investments, the report added.
