India Post has rejected reports carried by a certain section of the media in which it was claimed that the hugely popular service, Registered Post, is being discontinued with effect from September 1, 2025. In a Fact Check issued on X (formerly Twitter), the Department of Posts stated that Registered Post has not been discontinued and that the service has in fact been upgraded by merging it with Speed Post.

The Department announced that starting September 1, it will unify the processing of Registered Post and Speed Post items to build a more efficient and modern postal network.
Following the July 2 merger announcement, there was speculation that India Post would discontinue its Registered Post service.
Dismissing the rumours, the Department of Posts stated that its ‘Registered Post’ service has been integrated with ‘Speed Post’ to enhance and streamline operations.
India Post mentioned that both are valued ‘accountable services’, with records maintained at every stage for transparency and traceability. Registered Post is delivered only to the addressee or an authorised representative, while Speed Post can be delivered to anyone at the specified address.
The merger of both will allow customers to have secure, addressee-specific delivery of a registered item. Customers booking a Registered Post will now also benefit from a host of premium Speed Post features.
In addition to this, there will be:
– End-to-end online tracking for real-time visibility.
– Real-time delivery updates for enhanced transparency.
– OTP-based secure delivery for added safety.
– Cash on Delivery (COD) services, expanding payment options for e-commerce.
– Credit facility and volume-based discounts, catering to businesses and frequent users.
