Despite ongoing tensions, India and Pakistan have decided to hold the third round of talks on the Kartarpur corridor project on 4 September, reflecting their commitment to complete the project on time for Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary in the first week of November.

The meeting, which will take place on the India side of the Attari-Wagah border, comes days after both sides held a technical discussion on the progress of the infrastructure work.

Sources said India had proposed a slot between 3 and 5 September for the meeting. The two sides agreed to hold the meeting on 4 September. India had sent a note verbale on 28 August to Pakistan, asking for the third round of talks on the project.

The coming round is significant as it will be the first such meeting between the top officials of the two countries since New Delhi ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August.

Even as the war of words continues between the two countries on J&K, India has hoped that the work on the project would continue unhindered. Pakistan, too, has said it remained committed to the project.

Both sides had agreed to make the corridor free of visa requirements to facilitate the visit of pilgrims from India and other parts of the world.

The second round of talks was held on 14 July.
