Indian-origin UK businessman Gopichand Hinduja, the chairman of Hinduja Group, has passed away at the age of 85, British lawmaker and his friend Rami Ranger announced on Tuesday.
In a public statement, Ranger said that the demise of Gopichand Parmanand Hinduja, fondly known as GP Hinduja, has left a huge vacuum behind.
“Dear friends, with a heavy heart, I share with you the tragic loss of our beloved friend, Mr GP Hinduja, who has departed for his heavenly abode. He was one of the most gracious, humble, and loyal friends. His passing marks the end of an era, as he was truly a well-wisher of the community and a guiding force,” Ranger’s statement read.
The lawmaker said that GP Hinduja had a unique sense of humour and commitment to the community and his country of origin, India.
“He always supported good causes,” Rangers said.
“He has left a huge vacuum behind that will be difficult to fill. May he rest in peace in heaven. Om Shanti,” the statement further added.
Gopichand Parmanand Hinduja was born on 29 January 1940 in India. He was the son of Parmanand Hinduja. Gopichand was educated at Jai Hind College, Bombay, before moving to the UK.
He was estimated to be the richest person in the UK until May 2024. He is survived by his wife, Sunita Hinduja, and three children.
