The United States has launched a large-scale military operation against Iran, targeting key facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to statements issued by US Central Command (CENTCOM).

In a series of posts on X, CENTCOM said the operation, named Operation Epic Fury, was carried out under presidential direction and involved strikes on what it described as hardened ballistic missile sites and security infrastructure.

According to CENTCOM, the operation began at 1:15 am on February 28, 2026.

B-2 bombers, stealth fighters and carriers deployed

CENTCOM said B-2 stealth bombers armed with 2,000-pound bombs struck hardened ballistic missile facilities overnight.

Graphics released by the command show an extensive deployment of assets, including F-22 and F-35 stealth fighters, F-16 and F-18 jets, A-10 attack aircraft, MQ-9 Reaper drones, Patriot and THAAD missile defence systems, nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, guided-missile destroyers, RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft, P-8 maritime patrol aircraft, C-17 and C-130 cargo aircraft, and refuelling tankers.

IRGC headquarters and missile systems targeted

CENTCOM’s overview lists command and control centres, IRGC Joint Headquarters, IRGC Aerospace Forces Headquarters, ballistic missile sites, integrated air defence systems, Iranian naval ships and submarines, anti-ship missile sites and military communication capabilities among the targets.

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM claimed the IRGC had been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,000 Americans over 47 years and said the latest strike had “cut off the head of the snake.” It added that the IRGC “no longer has a headquarters.”

The command further stated that US forces are continuing operations to eliminate what it described as imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime.

“Strikes continue,” CENTCOM said.
