The Odisha Information Commission (SIC) has imposed Rs 25,000 penalty on a former executive officer of Kendrapara municipality for defying the provisions of the RTI act.
The accused official failed to provide information sought by a complainant within stipulated period.
The fine amount will be deducted in installments from the salary of Krupasindhu Padhi, the ex-executive officer. The applicant, Pradip Kumar Das of Kakata village here had sought detailed information on 13 October , 2011regarding the construction and repair of the municipal road from Tinimuhani to Icchapur from 2007 to 2010. Dash suspected that there were large-scale irregularities in the road repair and construction works as the executive officer had rejected his application and refused to furnish information sought under the RTI Act. When Dash did not receive information, he approached the Odisha Information Commission. The commission observed the officer should have furnished the information within 100 days but it was not done with deliberate intent. As such the officer violated the Commission&’s order, for which he was liable to be penalized under section 20 (1) of the RTI Act, 2005.
