A Colombian military plane carrying around 110 soldiers crashed while taking off in the country’s southern region.
Colombia’s defence ministry confirmed the incident, saying that the Lockheed Martin Hercules C-130 aircraft met with an accident while taking off from Puerto Leguízamo.
Expressing grief over the tragic crash, Colombian Defence Minister Pedro Sánchez said the ill-fated aircraft was transporting troops from Public Force.
“With deep sorrow, I report that a Hercules aircraft from our @FuerzaAereaCol suffered a tragic accident while taking off from Puerto Leguízamo (Putumayo), as it was transporting troops from our Public Force,” he said on X.
A purported video has also surfaced on social media, showing the plane losing altitude moments before the crash.
According to local media, at least 90 passengers are feared dead, while 20 others have reportedly survived the crash.
