Chinese President Xi wants screening of more Bollywood movies in China

Chinese President Xi Jinping has seen a number of Indian films, including Hindi and regional, and believes it would be a good idea that Bollywood movies come to China and vice-versa.

Briefing reporters at the end of the two-day informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi in the central Chinese city Wuhan, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said they proposed collaboration in the areas of spirituality, trade, technology, tradition and entertainment including films.

“President Xi said that he had seen a number of Indian films, both Bollywood and regional, and that it would be a good idea that more Indian films come to China and more Chinese films go to India,” Gokhale said.

Modi and Xi were seen enjoying an instrumental rendition of 1982 Bollywood superhit song ‘Tu, tu hai wahi dil ne jise apna kaha,’ from movie ‘Yeh Vaada Raha’ by Chinese artistes in Wuhan on Friday.

Bollywood movie ‘Dangal’ was superhit in China and broke several records in the Chinese movie industry and raked in over Rs 1,100 crore.

Meanwhile, Indian PM Modi and Chinese President Xi spent nine hours together during the course of their informal summit here on Friday and Saturday, Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui said.

“7 events in 2 days, President #XiJinping and PM Modi sepnt 9 hours together, covering a wide range of topics in in-depth exchanges with much consensus. Thumbs up to the two leaders!” Luo tweeted following Modi’s departure for India from Wuhan on Saturday.

On Friday, Modi and Xi first met at the Hubei Provincial Museum where the two leaders held one-on-one talks. Xi then accompanied Modi on a tour of an exhibition of Marquis Yi of Zeng Cultural Relics and Treasure displayed at the museum.

Thereafter, the two leaders held delegation-level talks that “went well beyond the budgeted time” as Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale put it at a media briefing here on Saturday.

On Friday evening, the Chinese President hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting Indian Prime Minister.

PM Modi and Xi again held discussions over tea on Saturday morning and took a walk along the East Lake.

The two leaders then took a boat ride on the scenic East Lake. Xi then hosted a lunch for Modi before the latter’s departure for India.
