While the authorities have declared 832 deaths so far, the toll is likely to be higher. Many people are in hospital undergoing treatment for injuries. Also, several people have been rendered homeless with the earthquake destroying their homes.

A statement issued by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) via its social media accounts has called for help in terms basic necessities that are urgently required to help the victims. These items are fuel, drinking water, medical personnel, medicines and field hospitals, tents, tarps, blankets, stretchers, water tanks, food, lamps, generator sets, emergency kitchens, body bags, shrouds and baby food.

Several humanitarian organisations have extended a helping hand, and are accepting donations in the form of funds, goods and volunteer work.
