CJI designate DY Chadrachud will assume office on Nov 9, 2022, and serve till Nov 10, 2024. He is known for his landmark judgements on various issues

Justice Chandrachud studied Law at Delhi Universityand obtained Master of Laws and Doctorate of JudicialScience from Prestigious Harvard Law School

He became a senior Adv at Bombay HC and later became a judge there. In 2013 he became CJ of Allahabad HC. Three years later, he was appointed to the Supreme Court.

Apart from his contributions to the judiciary, he was also a visiting professor of Comparative Constitutional Law at the University of Mumbai

DY Chandrachud is son of India's longest-serving Chief Justice, Yeshwant Vishnu Chandrachud, who held the position for 7 years and 4 months from 1978 to 1985.
