The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places, especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours.
The IMD also said that rainfall is very likely to occur during the next 24 hours at most places over coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka and at a few places over north interior Karnataka while heavy rain is very much likely to occur during the next 24 hours at isolated places in Hassan, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Ramanagara, Mysore, Mandya Tumkur and Kolar in Karnataka.
Meanwhile in Himachal Pradesh, fresh snowfall has been reported in the higher reaches of Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti while a portion of the bridge over the Beas river in Akhara Bazaar area of Kullu town collapsed after the water level in the river increased due to the heavy rainfall in the region.
The office of the District Magistrate, Shimla has issued a notification according to which in view of heavy rains in the district, it has become necessary to order closure of all educational institutions in Shimla district on 19 August.
