Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite feature, which is available on the iPhone 14 series in the US and Canada, has saved the life of a guy who was stuck near Nimiuk Point, Alaska.
The Alaska State Troopers received word on December 1, 2022, at around 2:00 am, that an adult traveling by snowmachine from Noorvik to Kotzebue had activated an Apple iPhone Emergency SOS through satellite on his iPhone after getting lost.
The Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue Coordinator, along with regional search and rescue teams, the Apple Emergency Response Center, and four volunteer searchers, deployed to the Nimiuk Point region at the GPS coordinates the Apple Emergency Response Center had given them. The volunteer search team located the adult male and brought him to Kotzebue.

For Apple customers, the Emergency SOS feature is already available in the US and Canada. Later this month, it’s anticipated that it will also be available in France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK.
Recently, Apple’s SOS feature came into limelight when it was found that the new emergency feature in iPhone 14 is making emergency calls after detecting roller coaster rides as a severe crash. Primarily, the feature is created to alert authorities if you are involved in a car accident or any other form of violent collision, or a fall.
