Just hours after Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Jawhar Sircar announced to quit the party over the R. G. Kar issue, BJP's central observer for West Bengal Amit Malviya on Saturday said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal should follow suit.
According to sources, after Sircar's communique to the Chief Minister expressing his desire to resign from Rajya Sabha and quit politics as protest against the ghastly rape and murder of a junior doctor of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, and the corruption in general governance surfaced on Sunday morning
Sircar has communicated this decision to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through a letter dated September 8, where he has also said that he has decided to quit politics for good.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will hold the administrative review meeting on Monday. Chief secretary Manoj Pant, Home Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, all additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and departmental secretaries are supposed to attend the meeting.
