The Canadian Tourism Commission organised meetings and education programmes for travel agents with partners in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore from 23 to 26 March to update unique products during back-to-back sessions. These were followed by destination training and, with Poila Boishak around the corner, there could be nothing better than planning a getaway with family this summer.

The sessions were held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai, The Lalit Great Eastern in Kolkata and the Taj Vivanta in Bangalore. The participating sellers were Air Canada, Banff Lake Louise Tourism, Cal Travels, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Globus Family or Brands, Hornblower Niagara Cruises, Jasper Tourism, Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation, Toronto Tourism, Tourism Calgary, Tourism Jasper and VIA Rail.

The representative from Ontario Tourism said their unique selling points would be the destinations. “The Niagara Falls is located in my region, very close to Toronto… we have a lot of nature”. There was also mention of Indian restaurants that serve native fare for visiting Indians. His affirmend that his region was great for honeymooners.
The Jasper Tourism representative stressed on Jasper being the largest national park in the world. “They are a small town of 5,000 people but in a very large park, 11,000 square miles of wilderness is what we have… people travel from all over the world to see a place that is strictly nature… wildlife is literally everywhere.”
Though the costs will vary with property and seasonality, the high season starts in June and continues till September where “we are looking at $160 (Canadian) a room for accommodation on an average”.
