Excerpts from an interview:

What is your perception of the term “disease”?

My perception of the term disease is that it is a state of unrest and imbalance in the body and is totally reversible by following a proper diet and lifestyle. It can be broken into “disease”, meaning a state of unease in the body that can be easily brought to “ease” by following a healthy lifestyle and by moving towards wellness.

Do you think people nowadays are aware enough about their health?

Yes, I find people to be much more aware these days, as against earlier. Although, at times they don’t give much importance to the fact that by following a good diet and lifestyle alone, their health issues can be brought to balance. There is much more dependence on drugs and medication.

People find it hard to follow a good diet pattern due to busy schedules and hectic lifestyles. It’s not only important to know what’s going wrong in the body,  it’s also important to understand how to combat the health issues naturally. For example, there is a lot of dependence on drugs and birth control pills to combat hormonal imbalances such as PCOD. However, just by following an adequate diet and lifestyle the cure can be achieved.

What pushed you to become a health coach?

In my own quest to find a cure to my hormonal imbalances, after childbirth, I took up the course of GUT Health at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, New York. Midway through the course, I was able to cure myself completely of my hormonal imbalances. That’s when I started helping my family and friends. After achieving many success stories, I just knew that I want to do this at a bigger platform and help as many people as possible to come out of their ailments and health issues through diet and nutrition.

Not many know about the role of a health coach. How difficult was it for you to establish yourself as one?

The role of a health coach is that of a guide, a coach and a teacher. It becomes evident to be able to connect to people, understand their health issues and counter their problems with proper solutions. The consultation calls are the main key to make people understand your role in their health journey.

Listening more and well is the key. I find it really easy as I connect with people and their health problems at a larger level and help them sail through. It has been a great journey so far.

What are the misconceptions that people have about dieting?

The biggest misconception about dieting is that it means eating less and inadequate. Whereas, it’s just the opposite. A good diet must be adequate, complete and balanced with all important nutrients and minerals.

If it’s not and is only designed to make someone starve towards a thinner waistline, it’s not a diet, it’s an inadequate diet that depletes people of their nutrients in the long run. Eat well and don’t starve.

What should be an ideal diet for everyone in general?

A well balanced diet, with less irritants and loaded with nutrients should be an adequate diet. A diet that’s void of all junk and processed foods, over consumption of sugar, is an adequate diet. To sum it up, staying close to nature and eating foods as nature intended is the way to go. A balanced, nutritious, natural diet is what one must go for.

People often lack the motivation to consistently maintain a diet. What is your observation to this statement?

People often lack motivation because of the busy lifestyles and stress in the environment. The key is to celebrate each tiny success and build on it while being on a diet and exercise regimen. It’s extremely important to reward yourself with little things, surround yourself with positive people who motivate you in your journey. And if everything seems really difficult and undoable, go for a health coach. Make your health, your priority.

How do you plan in contributing towards a disease-free India?

I plan to contribute towards disease free India, by helping people understand how to stay away from diseases, through clean and nutritious eating. Also, by coaching people regarding how to combat the already existing diseases in the body through proper nutrition intake and supplementation rather than taking medication alone.

I plan to do a lot of workshops, awareness sessions for children, growing kids and adolescent kids, so that their health remains great, not only in childhood but also in adulthood. Women’s and kid’s health is something I am very passionate about and I truly believe that healthy kids and women means a healthy nation in return.
