Q I am 20-years-old and 5’ in height and slightly plump so I look what is called short and stout. I wear salwar kameez most of the time but want to wear dresses also. But I look even fatter and shorter in them. What can I do to look taller and a little slimmer? Please help me. What type of salwar kameez should I wear? Please advice on that.

Nilima, Kolkata

When wearing salwar kameez always match the background colour of the two. Having one colour all the way down from neck to ankles will make you look slimmer and taller. Wear small prints or a material that has vertical stripes. In both dresses and salwar kameez do not wear bold prints —this will accentuate your short and stout look.

Q My skin always looks dull and tired and my family tell me it is because I sit around all day and never exercise. I am 22-years-old and always feel lazy. Will doing exercises really make me look fresher and make me more active?

Exercise and plenty of fresh air are essential for the health of the skin. Just make up your mind and join an exercise class (if there is one close by) or learn to do a routine of exercises at home by a professional. Do this atleast three to four days a week and then increase to daily exercise. Aerobic exercises give an instant boost to the skin because they stimulate the circulation bringing blood full of oxygen and nutrients to feed the cells and remove waste and toxins from the body.

Q I am in my early 30s and have a good skin and want to keep it like that. Please tell me what I should do to keep it looking like this always.

Have a balanced diet, which means having plenty of vegetables, fresh fruits, fish and some amount of red meat and limiting saturated fats and sugar intake. Try not to go out in the strong sunlight and always use a sunblock. This protects your skin from damage done to it by the UV rays of the sun. Get atleast seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Do not forget your twice daily routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising.
