Zimbabwe have bolstered their preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by adding West Indies legend Courtney Walsh to their support staff.

Walsh, who brings vast experience of playing in subcontinent conditions, has already begun working with the squad ahead of the global tournament, scheduled to run from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka.

Zimbabwe are placed in Group B, where they will face Australia, Ireland, Oman and Sri Lanka.

The upcoming edition marks Zimbabwe’s return to the men’s T20 World Cup after missing out on the 2024 tournament, having failed to qualify through the Africa Qualifier in 2023. This time, however, they sealed qualification with a strong showing at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025, booking their place alongside Namibia.

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said the decision to bring Walsh on board was aimed at enhancing the team’s technical expertise ahead of the marquee event.

“Courtney Walsh brings unparalleled experience and insight at the highest level of international cricket, particularly in fast bowling,” he said.

“As we prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it was important for us to bring in someone who understands what it takes to succeed on the global stage. Courtney’s knowledge, professionalism and ability to mentor players will be invaluable as we sharpen our bowling resources for the challenges ahead,” Makoni added.

Zimbabwe will begin their World Cup campaign against Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on February 9, before taking on Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on February 13.
