UP Warriorz have drafted in England wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones as an injury replacement for Phoebe Litchfield for the remainder of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.
Litchfield, one of UPW’s standout performers this season, was ruled out after scoring 243 runs in six matches. Her injury comes as a significant setback for the Warriorz at a crucial stage of the tournament.
Jones, who is yet to feature in the WPL, brings vast international experience, having played 125 T20Is and amassed 1,666 runs in the format. The 31-year-old joins the franchise for Rs 50 lakh and is expected to bolster both the batting line-up and wicketkeeping resources for the rest of the campaign.
UP Warriorz are currently placed at the bottom of the points table with four points from six matches. With qualification still mathematically possible, they need to win both their remaining fixtures to finish on eight points. UPW face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on January 29 before rounding off their league campaign against Delhi Capitals on February 1.
Jemimah fined for slow over-rate
Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been fined for a slow over-rate following her team’s narrow three-run defeat to Gujarat Giants at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.
This was Rodrigues’ first over-rate offence of the season, resulting in a fine of Rs 12 lakh. The loss dented DC’s playoff push after they had registered back-to-back wins last week.
Gujarat Giants posted 174 for 9, with 15 runs coming off the final over. Delhi’s chase faltered early before a seventh-wicket partnership revived their hopes and took the contest down to the wire. Sophie Devine, who had been expensive in the 17th over, redeemed herself at the death by holding her nerve in the final over to seal a slender victory for the Giants.
Delhi Capitals’ qualification hopes now rest on their final league match against UP Warriorz on Febru
