Tim David and Hardik Pandya have been penalised for separate breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct following Match 20 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.

David, representing RCB, was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.4, which relates to dissent at an umpire’s instruction.

The incident occurred during the 18th over of RCB’s innings when the umpires opted to change the ball. David insisted on inspecting it and refused to return it despite repeated requests. A similar episode unfolded in the final over, where he again failed to comply, leading to disciplinary action. The batter admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians captain Pandya was fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the same match. As it was MI’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22, the standard penalty was applied.

On the field, RCB secured an 18-run victory in a high-scoring contest at the Wankhede Stadium.

Half-centuries from Phil Salt (78) and Rajat Patidar (53), along with a composed 50 from Virat Kohli, powered RCB to a formidable 240/4.

In reply, Mumbai Indians’ chase lost momentum after Rohit Sharma retired hurt with a hamstring issue. Despite a late onslaught from Sherfane Rutherford, who smashed an unbeaten 71 off 31 balls, and contributions from Pandya (40) and Ryan Rickelton (37), MI fell short at 222/5.

The win marked RCB’s third in four matches, lifting them to six points and third place on the table, behind Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, while Mumbai slumped to their third consecutive defeat.
