Virat Kohli is expected to undergo a fitness assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru ahead of India’s ODI squad selection for the upcoming series against England, scheduled from July 14 to 19.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is likely to meet next week to finalise the squad, with Kohli’s fitness set to be one of the key talking points. The former India captain missed the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan after sustaining a hamstring injury during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2026 final victory in Ahmedabad.
Having completed a significant part of his rehabilitation in London, Kohli is expected to report to the CoE shortly after attending the global launch event of his One8 brand in New Delhi on Sunday.
“If all goes well during the fitness assessment, Kohli could be available for selection for the England ODIs,” a source tracking developments told IANS.
Meanwhile, Pandya will miss the England series after suffering a leg strain, adding to the fitness concerns that have troubled him in recent months. The injury comes after back spasms forced him to miss four of Mumbai Indians’ 14 matches during IPL 2026.
Pandya was also unavailable for India’s ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. According to sources, the all-rounder had initially been declared fit by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) and had submitted his fitness report to the Board before the team’s departure.
“He was declared fit by the CoE and sent his fitness report to the Board two days before, but after his final session before leaving the CoE, he had some issues regarding his fitness,” a source told ANI.
The 32-year-old endured a difficult IPL campaign, scoring 206 runs in 10 innings at an average of 22.88 while picking up only four wickets as Mumbai Indians finished in the lower half of the points table.
India’s white-ball tour of England begins on July 1 with a five-match T20I series, followed by a three-match ODI series later in the month.
