Indian skipper Virat Kohli has reportedly made a request to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to re-evaluate their rule on wives of the players.

Virat Kohli now wants BCCI to give permission to wives of the players to accompany them on full foreign tours as per a report published in the Indian Express.

“The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas, however, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team,” a source told Indian Express.

As per the current rule of BCCI, the wives and girlfriends (WAG) of Indian players can accompany them for only 14 days, that too after the first two weeks of a 45-day overseas tour.

Though WAGs were not allowed to accompany cricketers, Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, who is married to Virat Kohli, was seen travelling with the team throughout their England tour last month.

Earlier, during India’s limited overs leg in England, Anushka Sharma, Sakshi Dhoni, Ritika Sajdeh (Rohit Sharma’s wife), Ayesha Mukherjee (Shikhar Dhawan’s spouse) among others were present throughout the series. However, only Anushka stayed back and attended the Test matches as well.

Anushka was also slammed on the micro-blogging site Twitter after she was spotted in the Indian team’s picture at the High Commission event in London during the tour.

The 29-year-old Indian captain also dedicated the first Test hundred he scored on English soil to his wife Anushka after he scored 103 in the Nottingham Test in August.

“I want to dedicate my innings especially to my wife. She’s motivated me a lot, kept pushing me. She’s the only one who keeps me positive out there. She has copped a lot in the past but she deserves the credit for this one,” Kohli had said after the match.
