Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow WAGs (wives and girlfriends) to travel with them for the entire duration of the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup as per a report in Indian Express.

The upcoming ICC limited overs World Cup will be held in the United Kingdom. The WC will kick-start on May 30, 2018, and the final of the tournament will be played on July 15.

According to the current rule of BCCI, Team India could take their wives and girlfriends with them on abroad tours only after 10 days of the tour have passed by.

As per reports, Team India has also requested to travel between venues by train rather than bus. The request has been made so that their wives can accompany them. The players have also requested the Indian Board to make bananas available for them during the tour.

The requests have been made to BCCI after the recently concluded tour to the United Kingdom.

“Apparently, the England cricket board failed to serve the Indian team the fruit of their choice during the tour,” the report quoted a BCCI official as saying.

“But the CoA (BCCI’s Committee of Administrators) was amused by the request and said that the players should have told the team manager to buy bananas on the BCCI’s expenses,” the official added.

“There were other demands about booking hotels with a proper gym and discussions about the duration and protocol regarding wives accompanying players on tours,” the official said.

The report also said that the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators was unsure about the request to allow train journey due to security concerns. And as per allowing WAGs to travel with players for the entire tour, the source said, “It was felt that some players might view this as a distraction during tours. They (CoA) want to make sure that everyone is on board before they give the green light.”
