Indian skipper Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday silenced former Australian cricketers Kerry O’Keefe and Mark Waugh in style for their ‘unsavoury’ remark on India’s domestic cricket structure during commentating for Australia’s official broadcaster.

Speaking about Bumrah, after winning the third Test match, Virat Kohli attributed his emergence as a lethal pacer to India’s “amazing domestic structure”.

“Our first-class cricket is amazing, which is why we won. Credit must go to first-class set-up in India, which challenges our fast bowlers in India, and that helps them abroad,” Virat Kohli said.

Though Virat Kohli did not name anyone in his statement, the fans and followers believe his response was meant for O’Keefe and Waugh.

Jasprit Bumrah, who was awarded Man of the Match for his 9/86, also mentioned the contribution of Ranji Trophy behind his success in Test cricket.

“We train very hard and we are used to bowling a lot of overs in Ranji cricket, so the body is doing well,” Bumrah said after India beat Australia by 137 runs.

It all started on the first Day of the opening Test match when O’Keefe, who has picked 53 wickets in 24 Tests, said on-air while commentating in the ongoing Test series that “Apparently, he got the triple (ton) against the Railways canteen staff,” referring to debutant Mayank Agarwal.

Following O’Keefe’s remark, Mark Waugh spoke about how a domestic average of 50 in India will be 40 in Australia. However, O’Keefe later apologised for his unsavoury comment. “I was mentioning the runs Agarwal got in first-class cricket in India and there’s been a reaction. There was no way I was demeaning the standard, it was tongue in cheek. There are lots of runs scored, so apologies if anyone out there took offence,” he was quoted as saying to Cricket.com.au.
