Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting on Thursday slammed Aussie fans for booing Indian captain Virat Kohli at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

On the opening day of the fourth Test match, when Virat Kohli walked in to bat at number four following the fall of Mayank Agarwal, he received mix reactions from the crowd. While Indian fans were chanting Virat Kohli’s name, some of Australia’s fans booed the batting maestro.

Speaking about disrespectful behaviour of Australian crowds towards the Indian skipper, Ponting said, “If it was booing then it’s absolutely disgraceful.”

“I said that in the Perth Test as well. Show some respect,” the former Australian great was quoted as saying on channel 7.

The stylish 30-year-old Indian skipper was also on the radar of the Australian fans in all the three Tests. Even than Ponting and Australian batter Travis Head had expressed their disappointment with the crowd.

However, this is not the first time when Virat Kohli has been booed by the crowd. Earlier this year, Virat Kohli was booed by English fans during the Edgbaston Test.

Virat Kohli was also booed by Australian fans during India’s 2011/12 Down Under tour. During an Indian Premier League match between Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians, Virat Kohli was booed by an all-Indian crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
