Other than Virat, only three male players have recorded this feat so far — New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (2271), who is also the highest run-getter, followed by former Kiwi star Brendon McCullum, and veteran Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik. The previous record was under Brendon McCullum’s (2,140 runs) name, who is also the second highest run-scorer in T20Is. McCullum completed 2,000 runs in the 66th T20I match. His New Zealand teammate Martin Guptill took 68 matches to achieve this feat.

Earlier, Indian women’s ODI skipper Mithali Raj completed 2,000 runs in T20I and became first ever Indian cricketer to do so. Mithali has reached this feat during the 12th match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2018 between India and Sri Lanka.

Mithali Raj has played 77 T20 matches so far and scored 2123 runs. Mithali’s highest score in the shortest format of the game is 97*. She has also slammed 15 fifties.

Earlier, Mithali Raj also scored 50th fifty of her ODI career and by doing so became first women player to do so. Mithali (56) also holds the record of most fifty-plus scores in WODI and she also holds the record of highest run-getter in women’s ODIs. Raj has scored 6,373 runs in 194 games.
