New Zealand on Thursday named their 14-member squad for the first three ODIs of the five-match series against India starting next week in Napier.

The Kiwi team has recalled wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme as they aim to field their strongest possible squad for the ODI series against India.

Latham and de Grandhomme were earlier rested during the Black Caps 3-0 clean sweep of Sri Lanka. The series opener between India and New Zealand will be played at the McLean Park, Napier on Wednesday, 23rd January.

Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, who was rested from the lone T20 match against Sri Lanka, has also returned to the national team, besides star pacer Trent Boult alongside fit-again Mitchell Santner.

All-rounder Santner made his return to the national team in the lone T20 against Sri Lanka after being sidelined for 10 months due to injury.

Speaking about the New Zealand squad, Gary Stead said the team had been selected keeping in mind two priorities — first planning for the ICC World Cup 2019 and secondly to give the Kiwis the best possible chance of winning the series.

“Our two main priorities have been to select and prepare a squad capable of winning what is shaping as a massive series against India, and gathering as much information as possible ahead of the World Cup,” Gary said. “Tom and Colin are experienced players in this format and will offer quality in their respective roles.”
