Chile’s midfield general Arturo Vidal was understandably ecstatic after guiding his team to a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the opening Group B game of the 2017 Confederations Cup on Sunday, thanking fans for all the love they showered during the game.

“Thanks for the love,” Vidal said to FIFA TV afterwards, as he collected his man-of-the-match award.

Vidal scored the opener in the 81st minute, before Eduardo Vargas tapped in from close range in the 91st minute to ensure La Roja began the quadrennial tournament on the best possible note.

“We also hope to make further progress and to be the winners,” Vidal added.

Chile are topping Group B after Sunday’s victory over the Indomitable Lions, with the other teams in the group, Germany and Australia, set to play their opening game on Monday night.
