Team India will kick-start their International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup on Friday, 9th November against New Zealand.

So far, Team India’s record Women’s T20 World Cup has not been exceptional ever since its inaugural edition in 2009.

India only managed to reach the semi-final stage of the tournament twice in 2009 and 2010. Despite India’s poor run in the shortest format of the game, elegant Indian opener Smriti Mandhana is confident that Women-in-Blue will bring home the World Cup (T20).

Smriti Mandhana, who has played 47 T20I matches for India and scored 868 runs with the help of five half-centuries, said she aims to give the team a solid start in every match.

“My goal is very simple in this World Cup, I want to give great start to the team because I’m an opener. Team goal is ofcourse to win the World Cup, last time we reached the finals in the 50-over format. First aim is to reach semis then final,” Smriti Mandhana was quoted as saying in an interview to bcci tv.

While Team India will aim to take full advantage of experienced players like Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj. The youngsters like Jemimah Rodrigues are also capable of upsetting any team.

Speaking about Indian squad, Mandhana said, “We have a lot of match winners in the team, on a given day anyone can win you a Twenty20 match.”

The 22-year-old stylish opener also feels that the Indian team is placed in a “very tough group (B)”. Group B included the mighty Australian, who are favourites to win the title along with Ireland, New Zealand and Pakistan.

“Our group is very tough, in T20 it’s about the day (anyone team can win on their given day),” Mandhana added.
