Cash prize: Union sport minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday announced a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 to each member of the national junior women’s hockey team who had recently won the World Cup bronze medal.
Rogers Cup: In Toronto, Sania Mirza and partner Zheng Jie advanced to the second round in a tie-breaker at the Rogers Cup  tournament, beating Natalie Grandin and Darija Jurak 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-2 on Tuesday.
Tough match: In Mumbai, Gouramangi Singh and Nirmal Chhetri said on Wednesday India’s friendly against Tajikistan would be a tough game as well as good preparation for the South Asian Football Federation Cup.
Bhowmick chosen: Subhas Bhowmick, who has previously coached Bengal without success, was on Tuesday chosen technical director by the state for the Santosh Trophy’s next edition. Sisir Ghosh was designated coach.

First victory: At Beausejour, in St Lucia, Antigua’s Hawksbills got their first taste of victory in the Caribbean Premier T20 League, a 33-run win over St Lucia Zouks. Chasing 167, the Zouks were restricted to 133/8.
Champions Cup: In Miami Gardens, Michel scored in the 53rd minute to give Valencia a 1-0 victory over Everton in the play-off for fifth place in the International Champions Cup. Everton wasted several scoring chances.
Bale sale: Real Madrid were given renewed hope in their pursuit of winger Gareth Bale on Tuesday when a Spurs director admitted they could not hold onto him against his will. Bale reported for training on Tuesday.
Suarez angry: Luis Suarez on Tuesday accused Liverpool of breaking an agreement by refusing to let him leave Anfield, saying he had been promised permission to move if the Reds failed to reach the Champions League.
Malhotra&’s view: Bengal coach Ashok Malhotra, who took charge of the team on Wednesday, asked their batsmen to take up extra responsibility in the absence of Manoj Tiwary who is out for about six months.
New league: IMG-Reliance claimed  to have taken in four more domestic players for its proposed Indian Premier League-style league but stopped well short of disclosing their names for unexplained reasons.
Calum for Pune FC: Pune FC have signed former Portsmouth FC defender Calum Angus for the upcoming 2013-14 season. He spent the last fouryears at Swedish side Gothenburg Athletics and Sports Association.
Djokovic returns: Novak Djokovic returned to competition after a post-Wimbledon pause on Tuesday and coasted into the third round at the Montreal  Masters, easily defeating Florian Mayer 6-2, 6-1.
