McIlroy slips
Former world number one Rory McIlroy shot himself out of contention in the third round on Saturday at the Korea Open. The two-time major champion struck a four-over 75 at the par-71 Woo Jeong Hills Country Club, south of Seoul. The Northern Irish star, the marquee attraction at the $1 million OneAsia golf event, had three bogeys and one double bogey along with a lone birdie, falling to one-over 214 for the tournament. He began the day tied for fifth, but ended it tied for 13th, 10 strokes behind the leader Kim Hyung-tae of South Korea. Kim poured in five birdies against no bogey for his second straight round of five-under 66.
MCA poll issue
A civil court on Saturday reserved its order till Monday on a suit filed by senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde challenging rejection of his nomination to contest for the president’s post at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) polls. Judge M S Sharma of the Bombay City Civil Court on Saturday heard the arguments of counsels appearing for Munde, MCA and Sharad Pawar and is likely to pass the order on Monday.
Vijender out
In Almaty, Kazakhstan, Shiva Thapa and Thokchom Nanao Singh entered the pre-quarter-finals but Vijender Singh lost in the second round at the World Boxing Championships on Saturday. Vijender (75kg) went down to reigning European champion and fifth seed Jason Quigley of Ireland. Nanao would be fighting it out against fifth seed Anthony Chacon Rivera of Puerto Rico on Monday. Shiva will face Argentina’s Alberto Melian.

OM Roy Memorial, Shillong, Meghalaya won the U-17 Boy&’s title of the 54th Subroto Cup in spectacular fashion, outplaying Magurmari High School, Kokrajhar, Assam 4-0 in a thrilling final at the Ambedkar Stadium on Saturday
National tennis
Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash and Prerna Bhambri won the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, at the Open National Tennis Championships in New Delhi on Saturday. Arjun Kadhe lost 3-6, 1-6 to Jayaprakash and Bhambri drubbed top seed Shweata Rana 6-2, 6-1.
Macau Open
Rahil Gangjee carded a flawless five-under 66 and zoomed up the leaderboard to be tied fourth after the third and penultimate round of the Macau Open golf tournament on Saturday.
Kapur rises
In Foshan City, China, aiming at a European Tour card for next year, Shiv Kapur produced a fine card of four-under 68 to be fourth after the third round of the Foshan Open.
