Smriti Mandhana eyes 10,000-run milestone as India face Sri Lanka in third T20I

India’s third T20I against Sri Lanka will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday 7 December 2025 at 7:00 pm IST with the Indian women’s cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana just 28 runs away from scoring 10,000 international runs in cricket.

Hailing from Maharashtra, the left-handed batter will have the opportunity to become the second Indian women’s cricketer to score 10,000 runs in women’s cricket, after the legendary Mithali Raj who scored a total of 10868 runs in 333 matches and only the fourth women’s player in the world to surpass the 10,000-run milestone, joining Mithali, Suzie Bates (10,652), and Charlotte Edwards (10,273).

Second T20I recap

As of now, India is already leading the Sri Lanka series 2-0 with wins in both matches. In the second T20I, India cruised to a seven-wicket victory. Chasing 129, they finished the game in just 11.5 overs. Shafali Verma scored an unbeaten 69 off 34 balls, while Jemimah Rodrigues added a quick 26. Smriti Mandhana scored 14 before getting out, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur came in at the end as India secured the win.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were limited to 128 for 9 in their 20 overs. Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 31, and Harshitha Madavi made 33. India’s bowlers kept things tight throughout, with Vaishnavi Sharma and Shree Charani taking two wickets each, as disciplined bowling and sharp fielding set up an easy chase.

Deepti Sharma returns

As India is headed for its third match today, Deepti Sharma, the off-spin bowling all-rounder who missed the second match due to a mild fever is now fit and available for selection of the third T20I against Sri Lanka as Amol Muzumdar, head coach of the team said on the eve of match on Thursday. In the first match of the series, Deepti’s T20I bowling rankings rose to the No. 1 spot playing a key role in India’s opening T20I against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam.
